Popular pub facing bulldozer
A POPULAR pub given a brief lifeline following disagreement over the terms of a successful planning application might now face the bulldozer.
Members of Wyre Forest District Council's planning development control committee will again consider an application to demolish the Eagles Nest pub in Kidderminster and replace it with four houses and 10 flats.
The application was approved by members in April, subject to the payment of cash contributions to the community, including £28,294 towards education.
It has now been agreed with applicant, Christopher Compton Goddard, to lower that contribution to £16,164.
Case officer, Emma Anning, has recommended the application for delegated approval, pointing out that the only matter for members to consider is whether the revised sum is acceptable.
More than 200 residents had signed a petition trying to save the Coningsby Drive pub and the landlady, Rachel Watson, 28, had been defiant that the pub would stay open.
Planning chiefs will decide on the matter on Thursday at 6pm in the Earl Baldwin Suite, Duke House, Clensmore Street, Kidderminster.
